East Middle School News & Announcements

East Families,
I pray you all have a wonderful week and a blessed Thanksgiving! We at East are thankful to work with you and your students!
Virtual Sign-Ups: Any students interested in taking virtual school Second Semester instead of in-person must sign up prior to November 30th. Students currently taking virtual school that want to keep doing so must sign up as well. The window for virtual school closes November 30th. This is a hard deadline. Here is a link to the virtual sign-up form: https://forms.gle/yyJdFsLkoebFoaK1A
Or go to Joplinschools.org to sign up.

6/7th Grade Computers: All students should have computers now! Great news! You now have access at all times to student assignments and grades as all students should be able to show you their grades and assignments in Canvas!
COVID update: I apologize as I wanted to send a dialer last week, but missed the moment it would have been relevant. Last week we had one student and one teacher test positive for COVID. No contact tracing occurred from these two cases.
Picture Retakes: They are on December 2nd.
Sports:  Wrestling and Girls Basketball are our current seasons. New spectator guidelines are in effect due to the city mask ordinance.
  • All spectators must wear a mask at all times while indoors.
  • Spectators in the bleachers should socially distance.  Families may sit together but should maintain at least 6 feet of separation from other families.
  • Gatherings on the court prior to or after the game are not permitted.
COVID/Mask update: Students will mask in classes now when social distancing is not possible. Teachers are encouraged to be conscious of mask breaks. Also, I have a few teachers using these spacers under their masks, and I'm told it helps with breathing and with keeping the mask from getting as soiled from face contact. (I don't have stock in the company--just sharing as a helpful tip:) Usually called "Mask brackets"

8 AM Supervision: Our doors open at 8 AM. Please do not drop off students before then as there is no supervision prior to 8 AM. We recommend students ride the bus as an alternative to early drop-offs at the school.
As always, thanks for being great partners with us. The EMS teachers, staff, and I consider it a blessing to work with our EMS students and families. You are the best!
